Pro Tips

Chiikawa and mofusand are the trending ones

If you want what is having a moment, head for Chiikawa (a small white creature and friends) and mofusand (cats in costumes). Both have standalone Land stores that draw lines, and their goods sell out fast, so shop early in the day.

Kiddy Land is the one-stop shortcut

A single Kiddy Land, especially the four-floor Harajuku flagship, carries corners for most of the characters in this guide under one roof. If your time is short, it covers more brands in one stop than any other shop.

The character museums are worth the trip

Beyond the shops, the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka and the Snoopy Museum near Minami-machida both have excellent shops with museum-exclusive goods. Both require advance tickets, so book before you go.

Tax-free at the bigger shops

Kiddy Land, the department-store shops and the toy megastores generally offer tax-free with a passport. From November 1, 2026 the system changes to a pay-then-refund model claimed at customs on departure, so keep your passport and receipts together.
