Tokyo dresses up for the winter holidays from the trees along Marunouchi Naka-dori glowing champagne gold to Keyakizaka turning white and blue with Tokyo Tower beyond the lights. You'll also find Christmas markets that fill the plazas in between. If you are spending the holidays away from home, scenes across Tokyo may remind you of home or transport you to a winter experience like no other..

Many stay lit after December 25 and into 2027. Several city displays are free to view, while the three parks charge admission. Ao no Dokutsu, still waiting on its 2026 dates, comes last.

Christmas here is largely a season of outings, food and gifts. Christmas Eve is an occasion for a date, and strawberry cake has its place on the table. So does fried chicken, with KFC’s Christmas campaign in Japan dating back to 1974. In Japan, New Year is the main holiday for family gatherings.
December 25 is a working day in Japan, not a national holiday. Shops and restaurants generally keep trading through Christmas, so you can plan a day out as well as an evening. Check each place’s own hours rather than assuming one schedule.
If a Christmas Eve dinner matters to you, book it before arranging the rest of the evening. Some 2026 Christmas menus are already taking reservations. TRUNK(KITCHEN) in Jingumae, for example, began taking bookings on October 1 for December 24 and 25 and stops when seats are filled.
Allow extra time around Christmas itself. Tokyo Midtown’s 2025 guidance named 5pm to 7pm and December 19 to 25 as its busiest times. That was last season, at one venue, so if your dates are flexible, an earlier December evening is worth considering.
From December 26, Christmas decorations give way to New Year ones. Many winter illuminations continue after Christmas, with several running into 2027.
New Year needs a different plan. The holiday period typically runs from about December 29 to January 3, when many businesses close or shorten their hours. A display that stays lit into January does not mean every restaurant beside it is open, so check January 1 meals individually.
For a walk around dinner, Marunouchi Naka-dori and Hibiya join up on foot, since Naka-dori runs from Hibiya toward Tokyo Station. Ebisu puts its chandelier and Christmas market a few minutes from the station.
For Tokyo Tower in the frame, go to Keyakizaka in Roppongi, with Tokyo Midtown’s garden lights a short walk away.
For a bigger outing built around the lights, Yomiuriland, Tokyo German Village and Sagamiko each charge admission and need a planned trip home. Give Sagamiko its own day.
After Christmas, the Ebisu chandelier stays to January 11, the Meguro River to January 31, Marunouchi and Minamilumi to February 14, and Hibiya and Tokyo Dome City to February 28, 2027. The three parks run into April and May.
Before mid-November, the options in this selection are Yomiuriland from October 29, Tokyo German Village from October 31 and Keyakizaka from November 5.
Yomiuriland’s fountain show spreads 226 jets across a 60 m stage, and this season you can walk through the Grand Sanctuary sculpture at the WAI pool area. Jewellumination 2026, themed Growing Light by the lighting designer Motoko Ishii, runs from October 29, 2026 to April 4, 2027. Published lighting hours are 4pm to 8:30pm, varying by date. There are no illuminations on weekdays from March 1 to 12, and park closures also apply.
Park admission is charged. Adult tickets cost ¥1,800 for entry only, ¥3,100 for an After Pass from 3pm, which includes rides with some exclusions, and ¥5,900 for a One-Day Pass. Check the park’s ticket page for ride exclusions and the day calendar for your date.
From Keio-yomiuri-land Station, take the Sky Shuttle gondola to the park entrance, about 5 to 10 minutes. The park is in Inagi, Tokyo, well outside central Tokyo, so check the gondola’s hours before planning a late return.

Tokyo German Village takes a detour through America this winter, with displays themed on New York, Las Vegas, Texas and space under the 2026 title “Why USA!?”. The winter illumination runs from October 31, 2026 to April 4, 2027, from sunset to 8pm.
During the illumination, admission is ¥1,500 for adults and ¥800 for children from age 4 through elementary school. Parking costs ¥1,500 per car to December 31 and ¥1,000 from January 1. The entrance gate accepts cash and credit cards, with WAON as its only electronic money option, so bring cash for attractions and stalls outside the listed cashless outlets.
The park is in Sodegaura, Chiba. The bus from JR Sodegaura Station takes about 35 minutes, and the Capina highway bus from JR Chiba Station about 40. Extra illumination buses vary by day and use a different stop, so check the return service before choosing an arrival time.

Tokyo Tower rises beyond Keyakizaka’s white and blue trees, with about 970,000 lights along roughly 400 m of avenue. The SNOW & BLUE illumination runs from November 5 to December 25, 5pm to 10pm. Mori Building notes that the first night may light at a different time and that hours can change with crowding.
66 Plaza lights from November 13 to December 25, 5pm to midnight, finishing at 11pm on December 25. Mohri Garden lights from November 13 to December 25, 5pm to 11pm, and the West Walk Christmas tree stands on the second floor over the same dates. Opening-night start times may differ at 66 Plaza and Mohri Garden too.
For the whole avenue with Tokyo Tower in frame, Mori Building suggests the slope near Emporio Armani and near Roppongi Tsutaya Books. The street is free to walk, a few minutes from Roppongi Station on the Hibiya and Oedo lines. The Roppongi Hills Christmas Market brings German-style stalls to O-Yane Plaza from November 21 to December 25, 11am to 9pm.

Six locations south of Shinjuku Station share a soundtrack, each with a different lighting display, so Shinjuku Minamilumi works as a walk between them, Shinjuku Southern Terrace among them. It runs from November 11, 2026 to February 14, 2027. Lights start at 6pm on opening night, 5pm for the rest of November and 4:30pm from December 1. The lights stay on until midnight, though hours vary by location, and several of the Christmas trees finish on December 25.

Pair it with Marunouchi for one evening, since Naka-dori runs north from Hibiya toward Tokyo Station.

In November and December the lights are on from 4pm to 8:30pm, and to 9pm on most Saturdays, some Sundays and from December 24. On most Wednesdays and Thursdays the park opens at 4pm for the illumination only. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing, and the daily calendar gives each day’s hours.
