Where to Buy Pokemon Cards in Akihabara

Pokemon card shops around Akihabara, grouped into four walking areas so you can choose where to browse.

Last updated

Choose shops by what you want to buy, then use the four areas below to plan your walk. Hareruya 2 offers Pokemon singles and graded cards near the station, while Radio Kaikan lets you compare several shops indoors. If you want one particular card, buy the single. A booster pack is official product at a set price, and an oripa is a random pack the shop makes up itself. Many of these shops are on upper floors and open in the afternoon, so check individual opening times before heading upstairs. Condition grades vary by shop, and the tax exemption procedure changes for purchases made from November 1, 2026, so check both before paying. Oripa (mystery packs) have their own Tokyo oripa guide, and card shops beyond Akihabara are in our Tokyo Pokemon TCG guide.

Updates

  • BIG MAGIC in Radio Kaikan opens only from 6pm to 8pm on October 29 and November 4, 2026. The magi counter on 5F of Radio Kaikan is closed from October 29 to 31, 2026 for stocktaking. The separate magi at 3-14-9 is not affected.

  • Card Rush's official site lists its second store at 1-3-13, but Google Maps marks it temporarily closed. Confirm normal retail service before making a dedicated trip.

  • Tradia, formerly Card Shop BEAMS, is on 4F of the MN Building at 3-15-5. Search for either name.

  • Surugaya's TCG and Board Game branch has closed permanently. Its Pokemon cards moved to the first floor of Surugaya's main building at 3-11-3 Sotokanda, which takes its place in this guide.

Pro Tips

The letter in the bottom corner says which format a card fits

Cards from the Sun and Moon series onward carry a regulation mark in the bottom left corner, beside the expansion mark. Japanese Standard uses regulation marks H, I and J from January 23, 2026, and some older printings, such as basic Energy, remain legal under the official exceptions. Other formats accept older cards. On XY BREAK cards and older the expansion mark sits in the bottom right instead. Check the event's format and card list before buying a deck to play with.

Carry some yen

Payment methods vary by shop. TCG Lounge takes major credit cards, while Dragon Star by the station lists cash only, so carry some yen and confirm your card brand before choosing an expensive card. From November 1, 2026 a tax-free purchase is charged at the full tax-inclusive price and the tax comes back later, so budget the shelf price rather than the shelf price less tax.

Check release dates and lottery notices

Pokemon sets do not always release on the same weekday. 30th CELEBRATION went on sale on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, through an advance lottery with a limit of ten packs. Check the release date and each shop's sales notice before you go. New products may carry purchase limits or need an advance lottery entry, and arriving early does not guarantee a purchase.

Hareruya 2's catalog works in English

Hareruya 2's online catalog has an English version, so you can look up a card before you walk over. Elsewhere, a translation app held over the case reads rarity labels and prices well.

Tax free works in reverse from November

For anything bought on or after November 1, 2026 you pay the full tax-inclusive price at the register with your passport, and the tax comes back after customs checks the goods at departure. The minimum is ¥5,000 before tax at one shop on one day. Ask the shop whether your purchase qualifies before paying.

Plan how the haul gets home

Posting the goods home yourself does not qualify for the traveler tax exemption, and has not since April 1, 2025. If a shop offers direct overseas shipping, ask which export procedure applies before paying. Anything you claim tax free has to leave Japan with you, so keep it in a bag you have not checked until customs has seen it.

Hours vary more than you expect

Most shops open between 11am and 1pm and close by 8pm or 9pm, and a few close one weekday or on set days each month. Several stops sit on the fourth floor or higher of a narrow building, so a closed shop is a wasted elevator ride. Check the shop's own notices the day before a dedicated trip.

Common Japanese rarity codes

Read off the card itself, beside the set number. Japanese sets mark rarity with letters, and the scale has changed across series, so a code does not translate directly to an English rarity. Match the printed code and set number when you compare listings. Definitions follow the rarity explainers published by SNKRDUNK and magi, both shops on this page, read on October 25, 2026, with MUR from SNKRDUNK's MEGA series explainer, read on October 28, 2026.

Condition grades are set by each shop, not by a standard

Card Rush publishes these six grades and states outright that they are its own standard rather than an industry one. magi runs a different scale that tops out at S plus. So A is not the top grade at either shop, and a letter does not carry from one shop to the next. Find the key the shop posts before you read anything into a grade. Both scales read on October 25, 2026. The English equivalents are approximate. Each shop sets its own standard for its grades, so check the card itself before you rely on a letter.

Condition words on a Japanese price tag

Inspect the front and back of a card before paying. A shop letter grade is that shop's own scale and does not equal a PSA grade.

Radio Kaikan, floor by floor

Radio Kaikan is one building with card counters on several floors, which is why it is a section here rather than a single stop. Floors are taken from the building's own tenant directory, read on October 22, 2026 and rechecked on October 28, 2026. They do move, so check the board inside the entrance before riding up.
